All my friends are moms now
They work full-time jobs, cook one-pot meals, remember their partner’s birthday, try to fold fitted sheets, and they wipe butts and blow noses too
They read about baby-led weaning, don’t flinch when their child mauls a stick of butter and puts it in their mouth, and know how to make popsicles out of breastmilk
They make chore charts, know all kids are good kids, listen to Dr. Becky, make balloon arches for every birthday and string popcorn every Christmas
When faced with a screaming toddler they work magic - quieting them in one quick diversion, an elegant sleight of hand
To see the faces of my friend in their children is alarming sometimes, their little noses and funny expressions matching exactly those I have known my whole life
Do they know their mom never once made a mistake on her 5th-grade spelling test? Or requested a tutor for organic chemistry because he was hot?
Do they know she asks strangers if they are ok?
That she takes her shoes off at concerts in the grass in the summer?
That avocadoes make her lips tingly?
That she swam with sharks in South Africa or took a Turkish lover?
Where were you during her vegan phase? Or when she decided to take money out of politics? Or when her roommate left a Mormon bible on her bedside table?
All my friends are moms now
And their kids may never know just how lucky they are
This week’s post was inspired by my very selfless friends and their replica children. What about you? What do you love about your friends?

This may not be intended to be a poem but, Breanna...my goodness, girl! This is utterly poetic! I must admit that I started laughing at the first 2 stanzas because that's literally me now. Again, this is a precious ode to your friends and their mini-me's. I hope they know how lucky they are to have YOU.
The visual of the mauled stick of butter though…
VIVID!
