I am Hungarian, living in New Zealand, before that England and the US. It always feels so empowering when my jokes are showing my witty personality! Btw, I struggle to decide whether to write in English or Hungarian. Any advice? 😊

You could write in both! What language do you feel most comfortable in? Start with that language.

It really depends on the context often, but I don’t want others to miss out on it all. I saw on Threads that they have a translate option for short posts like this. Would be cool if it was a thing here on Substack as well! 😊

Joking in a second (or third) language is a real challenge! you did well! usually, in English, when I mispronounce a word I just sound drunk, or like I swallowed a bug, but in Italian even the slight accent change could shift the meaning. Italians, of course, might correct you to let you know, but you're right, as long as they understand what you're trying to say, why bother?
